Our Mission: Our
mountains have been the scene of an interesting and colorful history. Well
traveled Indian trails were followed by Franciscan fathers and Spanish Dons and
American explorers. When gold brought immigrants to Northern California, the
quicksilver of Almaden and the booming port of San Francisco sent the first
settlers here. Market hunters took game to feed hungry miners and sailors.
Lumbermen came up the canyon to send wood to build the cities. Cattle moved in
as the mighty redwoods fell. Renegades and bandits were forced out as farms and
orchards multiplied. A narrow gage railroad carried lumber and fruit to the
valley and tourists to the resorts and beach. Now bustling valley cities have
sent suburban residents to seek the beauty, fresh air and peace of the
mountains.
Loma Prieta Volunteer Fire and Rescue serves in support
of the Cal Fire to protect the forest, farms, homes and
above all the families along the Santa Cruz-Santa Clara County line in the
Summit area South of Los Gatos. |
